The Payroll and Accounts Receivable Accountant  is responsible for the execution and oversight of the  payroll and benefits administration as well as full cycle accounts receivable function.  The Payroll and Accounts Receivable Accountant is  responsible for leading the payroll execution by managing/coordinating the processes to most stringent quality requirements, policies and pay practices and safety requirements , in a constant effort to provide best support to the organization  with professionalism and integrity  while striving for excellence and creativity to further enhance sites performances and customers'satisfaction.

 Key accountabilities

Payroll Responsibilities: (50%)

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for all staff and hourly, if any
  • Maintain employee files on various internal systems and ensure reasonability of time entered
  • Timesheet collection, coordination and reporting in Timekeeper
  • Calculating any applicable extra or overtime for input into payroll system
  • System maintenance, update/add tasks, running required monthly reports with staff time
  • Responsible for any special reporting (ie overtime, vacation etc), as requested
  • Monitor, in conjunction with HR, employee benefits
  • Responsible for full cycle - group insurance, WSIB, RRSP contributions, submission, G/L bookings etc
  • Any required payroll training for backup

       Accounts Receivable & Other Accounting Functions (35%)

  • Full cycle A/R function for Pharmacy & Microbiology departments and other areas, where necessary
  • Weekly/Monthly Invoice creation for Pharmacy & Microbiology departments, including revenue reconciliation to G/L & Pinestar
  • Payment processing and cheque runs
  • Selected expense report processing
  • 3rd party reimbursement requests (ie JV engagements)
  • Process customer payments and preparation of deposit slips
  • Assist customers and sales personnel with questions/concerns in a timely manner
  • Regular reviews of customer payment history
  • Maintain accurate and updated customer files
  • Assist with budget reporting and year end audit, when necessary
  • HST filings
  • Backup for certain tasks from Finance Accountant & Accounting Clerk (Mosaic postings & Accounts Payable)
  • Undertake special projects or assignments as delegated
  • Complete any and all other duties to support the mission of the Centre

        Creativity (10%)

  • Ensures that the Payroll systems are developing its performance in line with the fit for the future. Ensures continuous improvements are defined and implemented. Systematically identifies equipment, systems and processes that require improvements and ensures these improvements and/or investments are budgeted and effectively implemented.

          Safety (5%)

  • Ensures compliance with Health, Safety and Environment protection rules, with engagement of all associates to apply the policies, procedures and regulations applicable to their work.

Education and experience

  • Minimum post-secondary education required
  • 2 5 years' relevant experience
  • Canadian Professional Association certification preferred
  • The Payroll and Accounts Receivable Accountant will be reviewed on our core values based on quality, professionalism and integrity, creativity, respect, relentlessness and safety.
  • Preferred skills and abilities include bookkeeping, basic accounting procedures, data input, processing, reconciliation, and Excel
  • Experience with Simply Accounting, month-end close and year-end close considered an asset
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and organization skills also required
